Thoughts

Fr Gildea (Gilly) Wonderful priest, friend and spiritual guide. Especially in our youth. Fondd memories of our parish St. Matthews, Fr Griffin, the social club and football team. Being part of the Y.C.W (Young Christian Workers) brings back wonderful memories of your time with us. We kept in touch as a much as possible when you moved on to spread your knowledge and friendship in your next parishes. We were honoured to be part of your Golden Jubilee, where you provided a delicious spread in your beautiful garden, with your lovely smile and warmth. You made us feel so welcome, as always. Over the years we met up on a few occasions. More recently, even in your frailty, you concelebrated Frank's funeral mass with your friend Bishop Tom Williams, we are truly grateful. It was sad, but an honour to say goodbye to you, amid the many parishioners and clergy, who loved and respected you dearly. It is a privilege to have been part of your life. May you rest in peace with your loved ones in the garden of the Lord. God bless and keep you. The Vaudrey Family.

Fr Gildea, your wisdom and leadership will be greatly missed by your parishioners and all those who knew you. You nurtured, guided and supported so many through good times and bad and we will never forget you. Thank you for everything. Rest in peace.

As an altar boy in Holy Angel's Kirkby Father Gildea 'Gilly' As he was known to us took us all under his wing setting up a altar boy's football team, bringing us off bike trips on long hot summer day's, he brought us ice skating and he also brought us to the Odeon in Liverpool to see a very obscure fill called Star Wars. He had a great sense of fun and he was the coolest Priest on his beloved BMW motorbike. I am so lucky to have known Gilly and to have assisted him in his ministry but also to call him an old a friend.
